Ventura Criminal Attorney
California allows for the imposition of “gang registration” for any crime the court determines is gang related at the time of sentencing. Although the California Supreme Court has upheld the registration requirements as constitutional because they are not considered additional “punishment,” that does not mean that registration will not have serious consequences for you.
Registration is mandatory and the failure to register appropriately is a crime. Registering properly may hurt your chances of employment, subject you to additional police scrutiny, and harm your reputation, even years after you have never had or no longer have any ties to gang activity.
